SUMMARY:Loud As Folk presents: Charlie Parr | Friday | April 3rd 2026
DESCRIPTION:Loud As Folk began as a monthly songwriters showcase based out of Reno\, NV in 2011 and has since grown into a touring revue\, a recording studio\, a radio hour\, and a creative movement. The series has featured an eclectic mix of punk-gone-folk performers\, underground legends\, and fiercely original voices. \nTickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Seating will open at 6:30 with music beginning at 7pm. \nBecome a member of the Brewery Arts Center and save $5 on your ticket! Join Today! \nIn the music of Charlie Parr\, there is a sincere conviction and earnest drive to create. The Minnesota-born guitarist\, songwriter\, and interpreter of traditional music has released 19 albums over two decades and has been known to perform up to 275 shows a year. Parr is a folk troubadour in the truest sense: taking to the road between shows\, writing and rewriting songs as he plays\, fueled by a belief that music is eternal and cannot be claimed or adequately explained. The bluesman poet pulls closely from the sights and sounds around him\, his lyrical craftsmanship built by his influences. The sounds from his working-class upbringing—including Folkways legends such as Lead Belly and Woody Guthrie—imbue Parr’s music with stylistic echoes of blues and folk icons of decades past. Parr sees himself merely as a continuer of a folk tradition: “I feel like I stand on a lot of big shoulders\,” he said in an interview. “I hope that I’ve brought a little bit of myself to the music.”

SUMMARY:C5 presents: The History of Film Animation | Secret of Nimh | Thursday | February 26th 2026
DESCRIPTION:Animation history is fueled by rebellion\, rivalry\, and artists bold enough to break away from the status quo. The Rise of Rivals dives into the moment when animators defected from the Disney machine\, sparking fierce creative competition and giving rise to sharper humor\, darker themes\, and entirely new icons. As studios and storytellers pushed back against polished fairy tales\, characters like Bugs Bunny emerged—witty\, irreverent\, and defiantly different—forever changing the tone and possibilities of animation. \nWe’ll kick things off with Looney Tunes: A Wild Hare (1940)\, the cartoon that officially introduced Bugs Bunny and defined Warner Bros.’ fast\, anarchic style as a direct counterpoint to Disney’s approach. Then\, experience the haunting artistry of The Secret of NIMH (1982)\, a visually rich and emotionally daring feature created by former Disney animators who set out to prove animation could be complex\, mature\, and uncompromising. \nYou’re in for an electrifying night celebrating the rivalries that reshaped animation—and the artists who dared to challenge the throne. \nDoors open at 7pm\, the show starts at 7:30pm. \nBecome an Ally member of the Brewery Arts Center and enjoy all the films we show for FREE! \n Join Today!

His inspirations are drawn from two separate wells; Living the life of a cattleman’s kid and experiencing true visionaries music like Greg Brown\, John Hartford\, and Guy Clark. The image of Guy Clark and friends sitting around the kitchen table loaded with ashtrays full of butts\, half-smoked cigarettes\, food\, and booze on one Christmas Eve in 1975 burned into Taylor’s soul. Those guys\, swapping songs without pretense\, lit Willy Tea’s fire. And ever since\, its led purpose with passion – finding a hang by curating relationships through musical friendships that get him closer to his own Clark style kitchen table.\n\n\nThe Sam Chase –\nIf one could apply a needle to the flat disc of time and render a sound from its infinite grooves\, the celestial tones of past\, present and future would be the songs of The Sam Chase.  It doesn’t matter where they are from\, where they’ve been or where they may yet go.  All that matters is where you will be when they show how to make time stand still.

SUMMARY:Loud As Folk presents: Leroy Virgil with Opener Jade Brodie | Saturday | December 20th 2025
DESCRIPTION:Loud As Folk began as a monthly songwriters showcase based out of Reno\, NV in 2011 and has since grown into a touring revue\, a recording studio\, a radio hour\, and a creative movement.\nTickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Seating will open at 6:30 with music beginning at 7pm.\n\nBecome a member of the Brewery Arts Center and save $5 on your ticket! Join Today!\n\nLeroy Virgil has been playing music that is honest and raw since 2004. There is none of the modern pop slickness that passes for country these days. Virgil’s music is as real as the grime and grit on old abandoned buildings in small towns like Reno NV\, Butte MT\, Aberdeen WA\, and Woodland CA. “Basically I set out to write simple country songs in a simple language about my life and the lives of my scumbag friends and that is something you can’t get away with anymore in Nashville” says Leroy Virgil.\nVirgil’s band Hellbound Glory has clocked thousands of mile on the road playing dive bars and honky tonks across the country and abroad. The humor inherent in Leroy’s life on the edge mindset shines through the bleakness with passionate full-throttle delivery. His rowdy style meshes the best of country’s past with the freewheeling abandon of the present day.\n\nJade Brodie is a Railroading songstress from northern Nevada. Drawing inspiration from the Blue Collar Hero and the away-frome-home lifestyle of the railroad. She writes her songs with a heavy train beat\, strong will\, and simple poetry.

SUMMARY:Mark Twain Days | Mark Twain and Julia Bulette: Together Again | Friday | October 17th 2025
DESCRIPTION:Samuel Langhorne Clemens\, known by the pen name Mark Twain\, was an American writer\, humorist\, and essayist. Clemens was praised as the greatest humorist the United States has produced\, with William Faulkner calling him “the father of American literature”. Twain’s novels include The Adventures of Tom Sawyer\, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn\, as well as Roughing It.\n\nAfter thirty-five years of school lectures and performances across the globe\, McAvoy Layne retired from performing as Mark Twain in 2023\, however he continues to find reasons to dust off the white suit for a good cause and a good time.\n\nJulia C. Bulette was perhaps Virginia City’s most infamous “working girl”\, as well as a cherished member of Virginia Company #1’s volunteer fire department. In her own words\, Julia will share with her audience\, a world so often misunderstood\, with dignity and insight. She will tell of her most exciting life in which she was welcomed at society venues such as Maguire’s Opera House\, yet shunned on the street by the local women citizens. And\, she will recount her scandalous murder and what became of the man blamed for it.\n\nKim Harris is an accomplished Chautauquan who has portrayed living history characters at various venues including Genoa Western Heritage Days\, Pipers Opera House\, the Gold Hill Hotel\, the Odeon Saloon\, Dangberg Historic Park and The Lake Tahoe Chautauqua Festival. Harris currently serves as Events and Education Manager at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park in Minden\, NV\, and is the owner and operator of Western History ALIVE! where she portrays several Chautauqua characters including Calamity Jane\, Lizzie Borden and Libbie Bacon Custer.\n\n  \n
