SUMMARY:Being Creative with Ceramic Clay | Session 3 | 5 Week Series | Thursdays | Beginning April 16th 2026
DESCRIPTION:Session 3 is a continuation of our creative series clay class. In this workshop we will explore the sculptural side of hand building through 2 engaging projects. The first will be a demonstrative piece to get your creativity flowing and the second piece will be student choice. We will go over sculptural practices the first day of class and there will be many options to choose from for the students’ choice.\n\nIf you didn’t join us for the first 2 workshops and you have experience please consider joining us. This will be an engaging\, fun and creative clay class that you’re sure to learn from and come away with an amazing sculpture and a new appreciation for 3 dimensional art. The examples shown are just that\, examples of what’s possible.\n\n\n\nAbout the Instructor\, Deborah Mae Corona:\nAs a sculptural artist\, I enjoy the process from the initial concept to the finished piece and the evolution that inevitably occurs during the making. I have had the extreme pleasure of being mentored by world class artists like Eric Blome\, Anne Stryke and Wanxin Zhang to name a few\, whom I credit with the trajectory of my career. I received my master’s of fine art from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. In a city with a history rich and diverse in both art and culture taught me that skills are important but so is the intuitive aspect that comes from years of practice. It is ingrained that an artist’s job is to interpret the world around them\, but more important is that art is a universal language that the viewer doesn’t need to necessarily know or speak that the art should speak for itself. With that mindset\, I strive to impart that  wisdom through my teaching. Art is invaluable\, it matters and that’s my goal.\n\n\n\nDates\, times and fees are a follows:\n\nApril 16\, 23\, 30\, May 7 and 14\nThese classes will be on Thursday’s from 5:30 – 9:30pm\nThe first 3 classes will be building and May 7th will be the glazing class.\n\n***Saturday April 25th will be a make-up – catch-up class which you will need to sign up for and is included in the price of this workshop.\n\nThe last class period 5/14 will be the final critique and picking up your completed work. This final class will be approx. an hour.\n\nThe cost for this class is $150 and includes all materials\, instruction and firings to complete the projects. A $20 lab fee will be collected the first day of class to the instructor.

DESCRIPTION:Join pottery artist\, Kym Maehl\, in this fabulous & creative class! \nIn this class\, we’ll begin by  making a clay pinch pot cup or bowl.  We’ll then get creative with underglaze and sgraffito. \nSgraffito is a decorating technique in which a coat of a colored slip or underglaze is painted onto a your vessel\, after which designs are carved into the surface in order to reveal the contrasting color of the clay.  The example provided is only one possibility.  Your imagination will make it your own.  I will be putting a clear glaze on them after they’re bisque fired so that they are ready to use when you pick them up. \nThis is a great class for all levels of experience.

From noon to 4 we will have an open studio with a couple of project options. If you have experience\, you are welcome to work on something of your own. The session is $50 per person and you will need to buy the clay from the BAC. $30 for a whole bag and $15 for a half bag. If you have your own tools\, bring them along. If you need to borrow tools there’s a $20 lab fee due to the instructor the day of the workshop. Work on your own or get professional help\, up to you. The examples shown are just examples. If the egg carton appeals to you\, bring one and we will show you how to make it. The sky’s the limit to what you can do with clay.

The examples shown are just that\, examples and not necessarily what we will create in class. We will make several projects based off the basics and you will have several choices for your final project. Please bring your own apron or clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Each session will be 4 hours long and it’ll go by fast. Please bring a snack for yourself. We will provide all necessary tools and instruction. Please try not to miss any sessions as they are all critical to the success of this class. There will be 1 make up day that will be on Saturday\,  March 14th noon to 4. Classes are February 26th through March 19th from 5:30-9:30pm.\n\nThe prices are $125.00 plus a $20.00 lab fee on the first day of class paid to the instructor.\n\nThe Saturday class is free to students enrolled in the 4 week class. All others are $50 plus purchasing clay from the BAC. A 25 lbs bag is $30 and a half bag is $15.

DESCRIPTION:This workshop led by master sculptor Debbie Corona will demonstrate the hand building technique of creating relief tiles\, which means raised surface. Like the previous vessel workshop\, the relief tile has been around a long time dating back to about 4000BC. They served 2 main purposes; to cover surfaces and for storytelling. They have evolved over time and are still being used in both forms today as well as for decoration. Students will be creating a wall piece using 4 tiles that when put together make a whole piece. We will be using metal rings to “attach” as well as a hanging mechanism at the top. We will be using a variety of relief or raised surfaces for this project. Students will create through visual demonstrations.  \nStudents will need to provide their own apron or work clothes. Ceramics can be rather messy\, closed toes shoes and lidded water bottles need to be used.
