DESCRIPTION:With instructor Lee Netzle | Tuesdays @ 3:30 | Jan 16 – Feb 20\n\n*This is a prorated session fee for the remaining 5 classes.\n\nStudents start with drawing. The first step is choosing from a variety of reference pictures. They learn to study the picture they have chosen\, determining the size of the drawing\, the shapes involved\, and the placement of one part to another.\n\nThey then go on to paint their drawing. The students will work with three different paint mediums; water color\, acrylic and pastel. They will learn the application process of each medium along with the mixing\, lightening\, and darkening of the colors.\n\nStudents will follow instructions and be given freedom to express their individuality\, which always leads to exciting and interesting results.

Friday January 5th features Mel & Gia with opening act Tyler Stafford.\n\nMel Wade and Gia Torcaso began playing as a duo in Reno\, Nevada in 2012. Their collaboration is the meshing of two completely different sounds; with Mel coming from a folk background and Gia coming from a bass-player mentality of rock\, hip hop\, and pop music. The intertwining of their songwriting\, instrumentation\, and harmonies results in a gorgeous Americana vibe that stays easy on the ears while pulling at your heartstrings. \n\n\nArmed with an acoustic guitar and a voice that will stop you mid step\, Tyler Stafford is one songwriter and performer you do not want to miss. He is known for his smooth guitar playing\, instantly memorable melodies and poetic lyrics that range in subject matter from personal relationships to socially conscious commentary that will have you humming along from the first listen. Season 3 the series starts Saturday November 4th featuring Spike McGuire and Rachael McElhiney. \nWe have all come to know Spike McGuire as the Executive Director of Brewery Arts Center\, but before he landed in Carson City he toured the world performing his original songs. Earlier this year Spike recived a grant from Nevada Arts Council and National Endowment For The Arts to record a live solo album. The record officially releases on Nevada Day and this is one of six release shows taking place at historic venues across the state. \nMulti-instrumentalist Rachael McElhiney burst on to the folk scene with her band Buster Blue\, garnering attention from Billboard as well as a coveted invitation to record a Daytrotter Session. After several more years tirelessly touring the west coast in her trio Failure Machine\, she now performs solo as Rachbot. SUMMARY:After School Art Class - October/December
DESCRIPTION:Ages 7-13. Tuesdays 3:30-5:30 (No Class Oct. 31 or Nov. 21) with instructor – Lee Netzle \nStudents start with drawing\, first choosing from a file of reference pictures of various subject matter. They learn to study the picture they have chosen determining the size of the drawing\, the shapes involved and the placement of one part to another. \nThey then go on to paint their drawing. The students will work with three different paint mediums – water color\, acrylic and pastel. They will learn the application process of each medium along with the mixing\, lightening\, and darkening of the colors. \nStudents will follow instructions and be given freedom to express their individuality – Sometimes with very interesting results.

DESCRIPTION:The word mural is derived from the Latin word murus\, meaning wall. Walls were used as dividers\, especially in Roman times. Early graffiti artists were looked down upon for defacing and destroying property. Today\, muralists around the world enhance neighborhoods with their craft and we are thrilled to celebrate them in Carson City. \nGet to know the muralists more intimately by exploring canvas and mixed media pieces from the 25 participating festival artists. \nJoin for a special reception and meet the artists in person on Thursday September 28 from 6-8pm. \nThis exhibition also features University Libraries “Reno Street Art VR” – Wearing a VR headset\, users can experience over 100 different 360 video locations of street art including an interactive map of Reno and immersive vignettes from local muralists. \n$10 suggested donation | $5 suggested donation for seniors/students
