DESCRIPTION:Michael\, a native Mississippian received his Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Rust College\, Holly Springs\, MS. and a Master’s degree from the University of Mississippi in Educational Administration\, and Supervision. A veteran educator of 33 years having served as a history and science teacher\, basketball coach\, President of the Shelby County\, (TN.) Educators Association; assistant principal\, student support services coordinator and Principal with school districts in North Mississippi\, Memphis City\, and Shelby County\, Tennessee where he retired in 2017. \nThroughout his personal and professional life Mike has received numerous awards and recognitions on a local\, and state level. He has been a tireless and dedicated public servant\, an advocate for the arts and humanities and an individual who build bridges to others. Mike is the founder and President of the Northern Nevada Cultural Foundation a (501c-3) organization. \nSince moving to Carson City in June 2017\, he resides with his lovely wife Margaret a fifth generation Nevadan. In 2018 he launched Ideas on Tap-a monthly series of interactive contemporary issues. He served as a board member on the Carson City\, Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee (RACC) (2017-2020)\, and a board of trustee with the Carson City Symphony Association (2018- 2020). \n Through his fortitude to be a public servant\, Mike was also a candidate for Carson City Board of Supervisors. Ward 4 in 2020.  He is also an active member of Alpha of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity\, Inc. (Alpha Nu Nu chapter-Reno) \nMike serves as Vice-Chair on Nevada’s Employee Management Relations Board (EMRB).  He currently sits on the Carson City Cultural Commission board\, he has one adult son Phillip\, who resides in North Richland Hills\, Texas. Mike credits both of his adopted parents for shaping and molding his career in education\, and instilling in him life-long skills\, coupled with the intestinal fortitude to accomplish and overcome any\, and all obstacles. Some of Mike’s hobbies and interest includes\, reading\, cooking\, and showcasing his musical talents as a singer and saxophonist.

DESCRIPTION:“Esto es México!”\nThis is Mexico! You’re invited to join the folkloric cultural mosaic and tour a diverse and immense nation\, full of colors\, flavors\, dances\, rhythms\, and sounds. The ancestral cultures have left a legacy for all humanity\, Mexico is not a country\, Mexico is a world in itself! Welcome to Estampas de México. Esto es México.”\n\n\nThe groups Ballet Folklórico Internacional de Reno and Danza Azteca Aztlán\, emerged in 2006 with the purpose of representing the multicultural mosaic of México\, with interpretations of dancing and dances\, characteristics of each state and different communities and towns of the country\, proudly carrying the great ethnic and linguistic variety of a great nation. The greatness of México is marked by its ancient past\, land of great civilizations such as the Aztecas\, Mayas\, Olmecas\, Zapotecas\, Purépechas among many others that have left a great legacy and a precedent for humanity\, which upon the arrival of the conquerors was outraged and devastated but never erased\, since it managed to mix its mysticism\, colors and rhythms with the sounds of the old world\, to thus giving rise to the great authenticity of which today is the folkloric greatness of México. Ballet Folklórico Internacional de Reno and Danza Azteca Aztlán have always made a commitment to represent with dignity and respect the essence of our roots and what we are made of\, having as their main ideal to support and disseminate art and folklore as a learning tool for our youth. \nLos grupos Ballet folklorico Internacional de Reno y Danza Azteca Aztlan\, surgieron en el 2006 con la finalida de representar el mosaico multicultural de Mexico\, con interpretaciones de bailes y danzas caracteristicass de cada estado y de diferentes comunidades y pueblos del pais\, portando con orgullo la gran variedad etnica y linguistiaca de una gran nacion. La grandeza de Mexio esta marcada por su passado milenario\,\, tierra de grandes civilizaciones como los Aztecas\, Mayas\, Olecas\, Zapotecas\, Purepechas entre muchas otras mas que han dejado un gran legado y un precedene para la humanidad\, que a la llegada de las conquistadores fue ulttrajada y devastada pero jams borrada\, pues logro mesclar su misticismo\, colores y ritmos con los sones de Viejo mundo\, para asi dar pie a la gran autenticidad de lo que hoy dia es la grandeza folclorica de Mexico.
