Bold yellow meets deep blues in this joyful, color-forward class. You’ll paint a luminous sunflower in full bloom, its golden petals glowing against a vivid blue sky.
What you’ll learn
• Layering transparent washes to build glowing, saturated yellows • Painting a graded sky with wet-on-wet blending • Using complementary contrast (blue and yellow-orange) to make your subject pop • Adding texture to the flower’s seed head with dry brush and splatter • Keeping crisp petal edges against soft, flowing backgroundsWho it’s for Beginners through intermediate painters. No experience needed, just curiosity and a willingness to play with color.
Details
• Supplies- 140# cp paper, brushes, and a limited palette of cadmium yellow, Antwerp blue, permanent rose, and burnt sienna. A pallet and paper can be rented for eight dollars.
• Take home: One finished 9×12” painting, ready to frame.

Instructor, Dana Childs of d’Lauren Fine Arts at the one and only Brewery Arts Center. Childs has been teaching art professionally for over two decades. In addition to this class, she will be offering an array of art classes at the BAC, all with a focus on technique and expressiveness. All levels welcome, but this class is ideal for the beginner.
