The Brewery Arts Center is proud to feature works by Carson City potter, jewelry maker and author Kym Maehl, PhD, CRC, CHT throughout the month of December at the Artisan Shop inside the Brewery Arts Center.
Creativity is a way of life for Kym Maehl, our Spotlight Artist for December. Growing up in Lee Vining, a small town in California, Kym feels blessed to have been raised in a creative family that instilled the value of creative expression. In her family, making things was second nature, it was something you did for entertainment, to join with friends and especially give as gifts.
It wasn’t until she met Susan Taylor, one of her creative mentors at the BAC, that Kym discovered her passion for teaching, first jewelry, then pottery classes. And now, in addition to selling her earthy jewelry creations in the Artisan’s Store, she is also the BAC Pottery Studio Coordinator.
Kym is a strong advocate for the value of creative expression in maintaining a healthy and balanced life. She is a Counselor, Life Coach and Clinical Hypnotherapist who has been using the creative arts in her work with clients for over 20 years. Her recently published book, Grief~Dance Workbook – Creative Expression for Honoring Loss, is an extension of that work and she looks forward to teaching workshops highlighting creative expression for healing after the first of the year.
Kym is honored to be a Spotlight Artist at the Artisan’s Store and she looks forward to sharing her creations on December 3rd where she will be presenting her jewelry, including her new Montana “Key” line, her four books, and her pet project, “50 Cups of Joy” a fundraiser for the BAC. This fundraiser is a labor of love by Kym and six of her potters and she is excited to be able to be part of something that creates community and gives back.
